Spain wins the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time in its history
The Spanish women's soccer team won the World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand, after defeating England in the final on Sunday evening.
Olga Carmona scored the goal of the match in the 29th minute, while Jennifer Hermoso missed a penalty kick awarded by match referee, Tore Benso, to Spain, in the 69th minute, after the England defender deliberately touched the ball with her hand in the penalty area.
This is the first time for the England women's football team to reach the final of the World Cup, after they defeated the Australian team, the owner of the land, in the semi-finals, with a score of 3 goals to one.
Likewise, the Spanish national team, which played the first final in its history in the tournament, after defeating the Swedish national team, with two goals to one, in the semi-final match.
The England national team participated in the tournament 6 times, during which it reached the quarter-finals 3 times, and won third place twice, while it finished second in this tournament.
As for the Spanish national team, it participated 3 times, during which it reached the quarter-finals once in the previous tournament in France in 2019, and won the title in the last tournament.
This year's World Cup witnessed an increase in the number of participating teams from 24 to 32 teams, after extensive support from the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA).
The Moroccan national team participated in the tournament as the first Arab team, and reached the round of sixteen, but lost to the French national team.
The US women's national team is the world's most title-winning team, which began in 1991 and won 4 titles, then the German national team, which won two titles.
